The HTC One (M8) and the Galaxy S5's hardware might be very alike, but when it comes to design, it is obvious that they are poles apart. Here is how last year's flagship devices compare.
Design
The One (M8) is at the very pinnacle of premium design and comes with a slick aluminum body that is rounded at the edges. It comes in several colors such as red, silver, grey and gold. However, its design edge is quickly overshadowed by the fingerprint sensor present on its competitor. The Galaxy S5's build is at a disadvantage compared to the the One (M8) as it uses plastic for its body and pleather for its back panel. It comes in four colors, white, black, blue and gold.
Display
The size and sharpness of both devices' displays are nearly alike. The One (M8) comes with a super LCD3 screen measuring 5.0 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 441 pixels per inch while the Galaxy S5 is equippped with a super AMOLED screen measuring 5.1 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 432 pixels per inch.
Specs
Each phone has the best hardware from last year. The device from Samsung has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset, a Krait 400 CPU with four cores clocked at 2.5 GHz and an Adreno 330 GPU. The One (M8), on the other hand, has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset, a Krait 400 CPU with four cores clocked at 2.3 GHz and an Adreno 330 GPU.
Memory
Both of last year's flagships come with memory slots which allows for the addition of up to 128 GB of external storage. In terms of RAM, each device has 3 GB onboard.
Price
The Samsung Galaxy S5 is priced at $99 with a two-year contract and the HTC One (M8) has a price tag of $199 with a similar contract.
