'Indiana Jones 5' news: release date is not happening yet, according to Frank Marshall

Now that movie reboots and resets are all the rage, fans of the "Indiana Jones" movies are hoping that Disney would finally pay attention to the archeologist and his fedora.  And if "AintItCool's" intel is any good, then moviegoers can expect Indiana to go on another adventure in 2018.

According to AintItCool's insider, Lucasfilm has decided on a date for a new Indiana Jones film--December 2018. But aside from the alleged release date, no other information about the film was given. No hint regarding the plot, the stars or the director.

The news might have been prompted by Kathleen Kennedy herself. In an interview she gave to "Vanity Fair" last May, the Lucasfilm producer said that an "Indiana Jones" movie "will one day be made inside this company. When it will happen, I'm not quite sure. We haven't started working on a script yet, but we are talking about it."

It is a short leap to make from talking about the next "Indiana Jones" to asking man-of-the-hour Chris Pratt to star in it. The "Guardians of the Galaxy" star was rumored to be the hands-down favorite to play everyone's favorite archeologist. But the actor has vehemently denied those rumors and said no one has talked to him about that project.

Producer Frank Marshall, who handled all four "Indiana Jones" movies, also squashed those rumors. Marshall, who is married to Kennedy, very clearly told "Slashfilm" that there are "no discussions on Indy 5 to date."

While the news might be hard to take for "Indiana Jones" fans, it does make sense. Lucasfilm's resources appear to be focused on "Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens" and its scheduled debut late this year. And if the movie turns out to be the blockbuster that it is expected to be, the film company might not have time to work on the "Indiana Jones" franchise.
