Tesla may have a new competitor. Jaguar just recently announced its newest concept car, which is expected to be purely electric-powered, the I-Pace.

According to Telegraph UK, the recent LA Motor Show this year was the venue where Jaguar announced its first electric-powered SUV and it could rival Tesla's Model X. Although Jaguar has recently released the Jaguar F-Pace SUV, the British carmaker emphasized that there are no similarities with the I-Pace.

Jaguar's new concept car is tailored even in the finest details as a pure electric car. It has two 197 bhp electric motors, one in the front and rear axles. It claims to have a total power output of 395 bhp plus a 516 lb ft of torque.

Reports also claim that the Jaguar I-Pace is equipped with a 90 kWh battery with a slipper 0.29 drag coefficient. Its estimated range is 220 miles of EPA.

As for the car's architecture and design, design director Ian Callum and his team are eyeing on bringing innovative designs. "Designers have been looking forward to electric cars for a long time," Callum told Auto Express UK. "They give you permission to do things that you can't do when you have an internal combustion engine. We started off with a skateboard-like platform that enabled us to bring the cab forward in spite of it being an SUV. The wheelbase was decided by the number and size of the batteries that we needed to fit in between the axles."

The interior and technology of the upcoming electric car, however, will remain familiar as it will feature almost the same interiors of the fuel-powered SUVs. It will still have the traditional three screens — one to display instruments, one at the center console, and another one below it.

Although the details presented at the LA Motor Show can still be changed, Jaguar revealed that the I-Pace SUV is expected to go on sale in 2018.
