Years after her breakup with Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart is now more than ready to speak up about what went down between the two of them and how the lessons she's learned through the relationship helped her get to where she is now.

Speaking with ELLE U.K. for its September 2016 issue, Stewart first confirmed that she is very happy these days with girlfriend Alicia Cargile. The couple have been in headlines over the past year due to their on-and-off relationship. However, they appear to have conquered all the drama and struggles as Stewart said, "I think also right now I'm just really in love with my girlfriend."

When asked about her thoughts on being more open this time around with her romantic life, the "Twilight" star revealed that her failed relationship with then on-screen and off-screen love Pattinson helped her get to this point.

"When I was dating a guy I was hiding everything that I did because everything personal felt like it was immediately trivialised, so I didn't like it. We were turned into these characters and placed into this ridiculous comic book, and I was like, 'That's mine. You're making my relationship something that it's not.' I didn't like that," she explained of her romance with Pattinson back in the days.

However, Stewart said things took a turn for the better when she started dating a woman. She has learned to change her outlook in terms of being out in public with her partner. "It opened my life up and I'm so much happier."

After Stewart's scandal with director Rupert Sanders emerged in 2012, it seemed Stewart and Pattinson never recovered from the issue even if they allegedly tried to patch things up. The said scandal hit tabloids and outlets around the world, and eventually, the couple decided that it was no longer worth it to fight for what they once had.

Meanwhile, Pattinson seems to be out of the picture these days. There are reports suggesting that he may be losing track of his Hollywood career, compared to his ex-girlfriend who is in the spotlight not just because of her romance with Cargile, but because of the new projects she has lined up for her.
