When "The Legend of Zelda" was first announced for the Wii U, Nintendo promised a 2015 delivery. So even with rumors that the release date has been pushed back, fans of the classic fantasy adventure game are still hoping for some good news and possibly a retraction of the delay.

Sadly, it seems no good news will arrive as to date, "The Legend of Zelda" for Wii U still carries with it a "TBA 2016" release date. News of the title's delay first circulated in March when producer, Eiji Aonuma, announced that his development saw new possibilities that can make the game a whole lot better.

IGN quotes, "So, I must apologize to you all that were expecting the game by year's end, but we are no longer making a 2015 release our number one priority. Instead, our priority is to make it the most complete and ultimate Zelda game."

The announcement was solidified when "The Legend of Zelda" for Wii U was a no-show in this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). A quick check at the official Nintendo website will also show an absent "The Legend of Zelda" Wii U in its release calendar.

Some tech and gaming website speculate that the delay of the game might have reasons other than "newer possibilities." SegmentNext poses the possibility of the title's release for the Wii U being purposely delayed so that its release will coincide with the new Nintendo console NX.

If that is true, then the new, "The Legend of Zelda," will most likely be retailed to both platforms.

"The Legend of Zelda" was originally released in 1986 for the then flagship Nintendo console Family Computer. It follows the adventures of Link, who is tasked to save Princess Zelda by going through obstacles, solving puzzles along the way and collecting the Triforce relic.

There are now several iterations of the game, all appearing on different Nintendo game consoles.
