LG GizmoPal 2 and GizmoGadget news: Verizon releases kid-friendly wearables with GPS and messaging features

(Verizon / LG)

Verizon Wireless and LG have teamed up to release the LG GizmoPal 2 and the LG GizmoGadget, wearables targeted for kids. The two new wearables are great options for children that are possibly too young to have their own cellphone but are mobile enough that parents will need a way to keep in touch with them.

The wearables feature flexible silicone bands, which can be mixed and matched with other colorful wristbands (sold separately). They are comfortable for children to wear.

The LG GizmoPal 2 ($79.99) is a checking-in wearable designed for kids aged four to seven. It comes in pink and blue.

The GizmoPal 2 is a GPS device that keeps parents informed about the whereabouts of their children. Through the GizmoHub app, parents can use their Verizon smartphone to keep track of their children. Parents also get notifications if their child wanders off the GPS-set boundaries.

The GizmoPal 2 also features a LED status light to indicate incoming calls or messages. Children can place or receive calls from up to four approved numbers. With the push of a button, they can also alert the parent that they are ready to be picked up.

The GizmoPal 2 also acts as a voice clock that tells the time with the press of a button.

The wearable device is waterproof against splashes of water. It comes with a 510 mAh battery that provides up to 9 days of standby time or 2.5 hours of usage

The LG GizmoGadget ($149.99) is a more interactive wearable designed for elementary-aged children. It comes in red and navy blue.

The GizmoGadget looks like a smartwatch and features a 1.3-inch touchscreen display. There are different touch-screen themes to choose from. The wearable also features call and hang-up buttons.

Children will be able to call and receive calls from up to 10 approved contacts. They can also send emojis, short messages or pre-recorded voice messages.

Like the GizmoPal 2, the GizmoGadget is also a GPS device so parents can keep track of their child's whereabouts.

The GizmoGadget comes with fitness features including a timer, stopwatch, jump rope counter and pedometer. Unlike smartwatches, children wont have access to games or social media.

It also comes with a 510 mAh battery that provides up to 8 days of standby time or 2 hours of usage time.

The GizmoPal 2 and the GizmoGadget are now on sale at Verizon. Both gadgets come with a $5 monthly service plan.
