'Red Dead Redemption 2' release date, gameplay rumors: Map image leaked; is game in development?

(Official Website)"Red Dead Redemption" is an open world, western action-adventure video game developed by Rockstar San Diego.

There has been a rumor that the "Red Dead Redemption 2" map has been leaked. This is either legit, which can hype fans and gamers and verify that the game is indeed in the works, or just a cruel prank.

In a NeoGaf post, it can be seen that someone has uploaded a picture of what looks like a map and some claim it to be the map of the upcoming game "Red Dead Redemption 2." The developer hasn't released a statement or even an announcement if indeed the game is under development. However, this has not stopped fans and gamers from wishing and trying to hype the game up. According to iDigitalTimes, there happens to be some discrepancies in the map. One of the discrepancies comes from the location named New Bordeaux where they mention that the name of the location is specific to "Mafia 3." This raises the question if the leaked map indeed pertains to "Red Dead Redepmtion 2" or just another game like "Mafia 3."

Another rumor that may link to the leaked map and probably part of "Red Dead Redemption 2" is about the developer Rockstar looking for a networking programmer. According to Express, the role intended for this person is to implement dynamic multiplayer functionality into the open world and should be familiar with the gameplay mechanics as seen with previous Rockstar works with its open world games.

While these are all speculations, there are some who remain more optimistic as they believe that since it has been three and a half years, it sounds like a good time to release a sequel. According to Crossmap, a Reddit user named AnonDN1978 said that it is a good time to release or hint at a "Red Dead Redemption 2" and the potential title could be "Red Dead Redemption 2: Legends of the West."

Whether the leaked map or the rumored hiring of a networking programmer is true, as long as there isn't an official announcement from the developer, gamers and fans should only take this information lightly. If indeed the developer is cooking something, the best time to reveal or even tease about it is during the upcoming E3.
