'Rookie Blue' season 6: next season could be last one for the show

U.S. fans are getting anxious about the season six premiere of the Canadian police drama "Rookie Blue" to air on ABC this June, after learning that its Canadian counterpart TV network, Global, has already aired the season's first three episodes up north.

The show's sixth season was originally produced as the second half of a 22-episode season five, but was later re-branded as season six. The show premiered in Canada on May 21 this year.

Meanwhile, the lack of news regarding the show's renewal for a seventh season has led fans to speculate that season six could be the show's last one. In a recent interview with TV Junkies, Shaw Media SVP and chief creative officer, Christine Shipton had stated that the show's future was still under discussion internally. "We're working hard on it, but I can't say it's been picked up. There's a lot of factors, a lot of discussion," Shipton said. "I love the show personally. I would be so proud if we could take a hit Canadian show to seven seasons. It's a pretty small list of shows that reached that seven season mark. So it's not official but we're working on it." She added that all hope is not lost and talks were still going on for the series to move forward. "At this point it's conversations with eOne, in terms of finance and what the timing would be if there was a seventh season."

Set in Toronto, "Rookie Blue" follows the lives of five rookie cops who have just graduated from the academy. The series stars Missy Peregrym as Andy McNally, Gregory Smith as Dov Epstein, Charlotte Sullivan as Gail Peck, Enuka Okuma as Traci Nash and Travis Milne as Chris Diaz. The series was created by Morwyn Brebner, Tassie Cameron, and Ellen Vanstone.
