A few days into 2017 and ahead of the Consumer Electronics Show, Samsung has already unveiled a lineup of new Galaxy A smartphones that sport USB Type-C ports and a water-resistant feature. These will reportedly be released in "early January."

Through an official statement, the South Korean electronics giant announced three new models under the Galaxy A line, namely the 4.7-inch Galaxy A3, the 5.2-inch Galaxy A5 and the 5.7-inch Galaxy A7 that promise "beautiful design, powerful performance and ultimate convenience."

According to Samsung, this is going to be the first time that they have equipped a Galaxy A series lineup with an Ingress Protection marking of IP68. This means that the new smartphones are resistant to water and dust "allowing it to withstand the elements, including rain, sweat, sand and dust."

The newly announced Galaxy A series smartphones have metal frames and 3D glass back panels and will be sold with four color options such as Black Sky, Gold Sand, Blue Mist and Peach Cloud.

Samsung has also promised to deliver the new 2017 Galaxy A series with enhanced cameras. The sensors have been improved and made "more stable" with "accurate autofocus" and promise to produce sharp and vibrant photos even in low-light environments.

The three new Galaxy A models will come out of the box with an Android 6.0.16 Marshmallow operating system while their memory storages are expandable to up to 256 GB through a microSD slot.

The Samsung Galaxy A3 will sport a high definition Super Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode display. It will run with an unnamed 1.6-gigahertz (GHz) octa core processing chip with a 2 GB random access memory. As for its camera specs, it will sport a 13-megapixel sensor paired with an 8 MP front shooter. It will be released with a 16 GB built-in storage.

The mid variant Galaxy A5 will have a tad better display with a Full HD Super AMOLED panel and a somewhat faster processor that runs up to 1.9 GHz with eight cores. Its front and rear cameras are both at 16 MP resolution and the device has a 3,000-milliampere-hour battery pack that supports fast charging. Its RAM and built-in memory are bigger at 3 GB and 32 GB, respectively.

Lastly, the higher-end Galaxy A7 model shares similar specs with the A5 such as its processor, cameras, display panel, RAM and built-in memory. However, it has a bigger battery pack with 3,600 mAh that also supports fast charging.

Samsung is yet to announce the prices for the three new smartphones. According to the same statement, "The Galaxy A will be available in Russia in early-January and will be expanded to global markets."
