Samsung Galaxy Note 5 vs. Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus: S6 Edge Plus has the style but lags in features

Samsung announced premium phablets at the beginning of this month, however, these two siblings swiftly turned into rivals as customers choose whether they want the cool screen of the Galaxy S6 Edge or the stylus and great features of the Galaxy Note 5.

Design

The build of these two devices are alike as they both have metal frames and Gorilla Glass 4 on their front and back panels. However, the Note 5 has a curved back panel, which allows it to be held easier. It also has an S Pen stylus, which comes with several new features including the ability to take notes when the device is asleep. Both devices also have fingerprint scanners integrated into their home buttons. They also both similar color options available which are black, gold, silver and white.

As for the design, it is clear that the S6 Edge is the leader as its has unique curved edges which slant over the left and right side of its screen. One of the edges can even be customized to display an Apps Edge with five favorite apps. It can also display five important contacts and the colors associated with them. Each of these contacts can then be expanded to the OnCircle feature on the main screen. Notifications, alerts and a night clock can also be displayed.

Display

These two devices have similar sized displays, however the S6 Edge , has a curved screen and the Note 5 only has a standard screen. Each super AMOLED screen measures 5.7 inches and has a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a density of 518 pixels per inch.

Specs

Comparing their hardware, again the S6 Edge and the Note 5 are similar. They have the fastest chipset produced by Samsung this year. Each has an Exynos 7420 chipset, coupled with an octa-core CPU with four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz and four Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2.1 GHz and a Mali-T760MP8 GPU.

Memory

Surprisingly, Samsung chose not to include a microSD slot on the Note 5 and the S6 Edge , therefore external storage cannot be added to both. As for RAM, each has 4 GB onboard.

Camera

There is a 16 megapixel camera on the rear of the S6 Edge and the Note 5 with optical image stabilization. As for their front facing cameras, both have 5 megapixel shooters.

Price

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is the costlier of the two devices and it has a price tag of $299.99 with a two-year contract. The Samsung Galaxy Note 5, on the other hand, costs $249.99 with a similar contract.
