Samsung news: Galaxy Gear S2 officially revealed; comes in two models with a rotating bezel

After several months of leaks and rumors, Samsung finally made the Galaxy Gear S2 smartwatch official. The device has two models: the basic model, which comes with a sporty design is dubbed the Gear S2 and the Gear S2 Classic, which has the look and feel of a traditional watch.

The reveal of the two devices was made via a press release and Samsung pointed out that the new rotating bezel is the "unique" feature on the Gear S2. With it, users can easily find their way through applications and notifications. However, no further information was provided on the bezel's additional functionality but it is widely rumored to be able to zoom into images on the screen.

As for the overall design of the Gear S2 and its classic variant, they come with a Home and Back buttons on their circular body. The Gear S2 have two color options, dark gray and silver and each will have matching colored straps.  As for the Gear S2 classic, it will come with a black body and a black leather strap.

Among the important features of the Samsung Gear S2 are a 24-hour activity log, which users can employ to keep track of the amount of activity they perform daily and NFC technology, which can be used to make payments.

As for the dimensions, the device has a 1.2-inch super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 360 x 360 pixels and a density of 302 pixels per inch. Running the show on the device is going to be a processor with two cores clocked at 1.0 GHz, along with 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of onboard storage.

Engadget states that Samsung will also be revealing a 3G variant, which will come with a SIM slot, so users can make and receive calls from their smartwatch, without having to pair it with their smartphone.

Finally, the Gear S2 runs the Tizen operating system.
