Season two of FOX drama and thriller show "Sleepy Hollow" couldn't live up to the expectations created as a result of its hit first season. When the show first graced the small screen, it instantly garnered a considerable fan-following and critical acclaim. However, with abysmal viewer ratings and several creative challenges, the show took on a darker and over-serialized format. This called into question if FOX would renew the show for a third season.

Fortunately, "Sleepy Hollow" fans can rejoice as the show is indeed renewed for a third season. Ratings picked up in season two's finale where fans saw a glimpse of the show's old magic return. TVLine reports that Clifton Campbell is the new executive producer and replaces season one and two's showrunner Mark Goffman. Campbell is known for creating A&E's "Glades" and co-producing "White Collar".

Apart from a creative shift, the show will also take a lighter tone. With the death of Katrina and Henry, the possibilities for the upcoming season are endless. One particular aspect of the show that fans are raring to watch is a possible romance between Abbie and Ichabod. The two have an amazing partnership that is set to evolve in season three and Katrina's absence helps that. However, whether the two will have a romantic affair remains to be seen. However, actor Tom Mison has reportedly dropped hints that Ichabod is totally in love with Abbie.

In an interview with TVLine, Mison said that all is not rosy at first since his character will be dealing with the guilt of playing a role in his wife and son's death. He said, "If we go into a third season, of course there's going to be the guilt. There's also, I suspect, the fact that Abbie was the one who shot Henry... Abbie killed his son, and then he killed his wife." Mison also confirmed a reboot for the show in season three.

While FOX hasn't specified a release date for the 18-episode season three, a date may be set in May when major networks decide to have their sweeps.
