Earlier this year, the much awaited ninth installment of the very popular videogame franchise, "Tekken," was finally released much to the excitement of longtime fans. The game was made available four years after "Tekken Tag Tournament 2" in 2011 and like all other "Tekken" games, the title was launched in arcade form.

The decision to release "Tekken 7" in arcade form in 2015 has long baffled the gaming community especially since the platform is antiquated to say the least. Thankfully, Katsuhiro Harada, the game's producer finally shed light on why they chose this process.

"Tekken 7," which debuted in March of this year in Japan, is a fighting game from the "Tekken" series developed and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. The game focuses on one on one battles wherein the player can choose from 27 playable characters – 8 of which are new to the franchise, introduced only this year.

Earlier in July, Harada attended the annual "Evolution Championship Series" (EVO), which was held in Vegas, in order to conduct a panel discussing the recent releases including "Tekken 7." During the panel, the director explained why, despite it being 2015, the production team decided to release the ninth installment of the franchise as an arcade game. He said:

"This does give us on the other hand the chance to polish up the game while people are playing in Japan in the arcades. And to add content - unlock characters and such. So now you know, "Tekken 7" you guys are able to play it today that's not the final version. Eventually when it does comes out in console there will be all kinds of cool things in the game that we can't go much into detail right now but obviously it would be much better than it is now. "

No word yet on when "Tekken 7" would be available for the Xbox and Playstation. However, the game is undergoing an arcade location test this July in several Dave and Buster's and "Round 1" venues nationwide. See list below:
