Last week, ardent audiences watched as Tom Keene, Liz's ex-husband, confessed to killing the harbormaster before being let off the hook in episode 16. With Liz's murder charges dropped, she and Red can finally get back to work.

Episode 17 sounds like a typical "The Blacklist" episode as Red and Liz hunt down a scientist named Julian Powell. Powell is experimenting on disabled patients in "The Longevity Institute" in order to find ways to extend life expectancy in humans, reports International Business Times. The problem is, instead of prolonging life, he seems to be destroying it as many innocent victims are getting killed. Powell abducts these patients and experiments on them in order to carry on his search for immortality.

But wait, why does a promotional clip for the episode show Red telling Powell he's interested in his research? Is Red looking for immortality too? Does Red want the experimental immortality drug for himself? Meanwhile, Tom Keene tries to save himself as new enemies start to target him in Washington, D.C.

Tom's storyline is certainly intriguing, but what is really going on with him? Actor Ryan Eggold, who essays the role of troubled Tom, provided rare insight into his character to TVGuide. Does he really have feelings for Liz? Apparently, he does, but Tom doesn't grasp what these feeling are or realizes the extent of it. Ryan explained, "He doesn't quite know his feelings for Liz. He feels something and is kind of mixed up about it. In the coming episodes, we get very clear on what those feelings are. But I don't think he's really fully aware of how he feels about Liz and whether or not to help her."

But what's next for Tom? Incidentally, some introspection, as Ryan reveals Tom will be asking himself "Who am I really?" without a job and a mask.

Watch the latest episode of "The Blacklist" on Thursday at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
