'The Winds of Winter' news: Book not likely to be released in 2017

(Facebook/George R.R. Martin)Fans of the novel series "A Song of Ice and Fire" have been eagerly anticipating the sixth book titled "The Winds of Winter" for several years.

The wait for "The Winds of Winter" has been believed to end this year or early next year, but new reports suggest that the already long wait for the book will get even longer.

Fans of novel series "A Song of Ice and Fire" have been in agony waiting for the sixth book to come out. This year, the multi-awarded TV series based on the book "Game of Thrones" went on to air the season that was supposed to be based on "The Winds of Winter."

Early this year, author George R.R. Martin apologized for making his readers wait and admitted to being distracted. He has since promised that he will spend more time working on the sequel and he has been updating his fans by sharing chapters from the book. However, he also has other commitments at hand as he is also working on his other novel series aside from guesting in conventions.

Reports suggest that "The Winds of Winter" will be out by March 9, 2017, but the publisher has since denied the claim. And while fans may continue to hope on a later date, new reports suggest it will not make the 2017 deadline at all.

The publisher and the author have not yet made an official statement regarding the book's release date, but they are constantly asked about it. Perhaps to pacify the fans who are getting impatient, it has been announced that "A Song of Ice and Fire" series will have a digital release that will include excerpts from "The Winds of Winter."

Deadline reports that "A Game of Thrones: Enhanced Edition" is available for $8.99 and also includes interactive content laying out Westeros history, great house summaries, detailed annotations, and substantial glossary.
