Fans will be sad to hear that one of their favorite characters has officially been killed off of "Wentworth."

The dramatic season finale of "Wenthworth" left fans shocked when it presented an interesting turn of events. It was revealed that Bea Smith, played by Danielle Cormack, was attacked by Pamela Rabe's character Joan Ferguson.

With that, many were surprised at just how the series presented the death of the main character. It seemed to coincide with the death of Bea's girlfriend, Allie, played by Kate Jenkinson. Though heartbreaking, fans were hoping that the writers will create a miracle that will revive Bea from the dead.

However, the executive producers of the show confirmed that the upcoming season will no longer see the return of the character. They explained during an interview that it was a hard decision to kill off Bea, though they felt it was a necessary move.

Jo Porter, the executive producer of the series, revealed in a statement, "Wentworth has built a reputation for risk-taking, high emotion and bold storytelling, and once again, the season four finale proves no one is safe. As producers, it is always our intention to keep audiences guessing and on the edge of their seats. While the shoes of Bea Smith will be hard to fill, with the start of season five the gates of Wentworth Correctional Facility will again open to a raft of potential new stories and characters."

Nevertheless, they expressed how hard of a decision it was to kill such a powerful character like Bea. With that, her death has created a big impact on the show, which will make it hard to say goodbye to the character.

Meanwhile, it was reported that the fifth season of "Wentworth" is already going through production. Sources indicated that the cast and crew of "Wentworth" were spotted in Melbourne last week.

"Wentworth" season 5 is expected to hit the small screens early next year.
