'Winds of Winter' release date: Will there be a May release for GRRM's book?

(Reuters)Fans need to wait longer for "The Winds of Winter" book to arrive.

The sixth season of the hit HBO series "Game of Thrones" has already premiered, with millions  of viewers raving about the resurrection of fan favorite Jon Snow (Kit Harington). There is still no update regarding its book counterpart, "Winds of Winter," however, although some sources claim that author George R.R. Martin will soon release it this May.

The last time Martin updates the fans about the sixth novel of his highly successful book series "A Song of Ice and Fire," he said he has been doing overtime work to finish everything. The author made no secret of the fact that he wanted to release the book prior to the television series' premiere in April. He reportedly turned down several invitations to events so that he could focus on finishing the book. Two weeks since "GoT" aired season 6, there is still no news as to when the novel will hit the shelves of the bookstores worldwide.

One of the concerns to airing the series prior to the release of the novel is about the spoilers. Many are hoping that the book will provide answers to the key questions, specifically regarding Snow's true identity. Now that he is officially back in the game, fans now want to know if their theories about his parents make sense or not. According to Crossmap, Martin previously gave a huge clue to the character's parentage in his Twitter account, which was soon deleted.

The author reportedly said that Snow's parents' names rhyme with "Schmobert Schmaratheon" and "Schmatelyn Stark," which may pertain to Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy) and Catelyn Stark (Michelle Fairley). The website, however, believes that the "R L=J" combination is still the right one. Sean Bean, who plays Ned Stark, also seemed to agree to the idea. He told Vulture that he has always suspected the unseen characters of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryenas as Snow's parents. As to how Snow would react to the said revelation, Bean had an idea.

"[He'd be] probably a bit psychologically confused, I would imagine! I think that's probably an interesting journey for Jon Snow as a character and for [Kit Harington] as the actor. He's been very fortunate in being one of the characters that had a very meaty, substantial, very complex story to be able to discover for himself. He's been lucky to survive!" the actor shared.
