'Red Dead Redemption 2' news, updates: Game poised to sell 12 million copies, says analyst

(Facebook/rockstargames)"Red Dead Redemption 2" will arrive in the fall of 2017.

"Red Dead Redemption 2" has been plagued with rumors for months on end. And with Rockstar Games' announcement that the game will arrive in the fall of 2017 came a lot of predictions. One such prediction from analyst Ben Schachter states that the game is poised to sell 12 million copies within its release period.

According to Schachter, who works as an analyst at Macquarie Securities, the game's announcement alone is proof that there is a high demand from players for "Red Dead Redemption 2."

"Notably, in its first hour, the announcement received 54K likes and 61K retweets on Twitter, 152K likes and 52K comments on Facebook, and 65K likes on Instagram," Schachter told Games Industry. "We think this demonstrates significant pent-up demand and interest for the sequel."

If proven true, then Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar Games' parent company, could be looking at a high volume of demand to meet during the sequel's release window.

It was previously reported that Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter predicted that a PC version of the game, although yet unannounced, could still make it to the market, albeit at a much later date than that of Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions. Pachter noted that just because Rockstar Games has not revealed that a PC version is coming doesn't mean that it's not coming at all. He pointed out that it could just be a strategic move for the studio to hold off on making an announcement about the game coming to the PC. However, it can be recalled that the game's predecessor, "Red Dead Redemption," did not arrive on the PC.

Meanwhile, Nintendo recently revealed that its next console, the Nintendo Switch, will be releasing sometime in March 2017. Previously code-named the Nintendo NX, the Switch is a handy console that can also be used while on-the-go, sporting detachable controllers on either side. And although the Switch is only five months away, it doesn't seem likely that Rockstar Games will release a version of "Red Dead Redemption 2" on the upcoming console.
