Amazing Spiderman 3 movie rumors: Gwen Stacy returns in third installment, will Garfield still be Spiderman?

Spiderman is, arguably, the most lovable superhero but the recent Spidey movie had failed to garner critical acclaim or significant box office success, similarly seen in previous Spiderman movies starring Tobey Maguire. While hopes of the third movie were axed by Sony because of its underwhelming reception by movie-goers, this may all change as Spiderman is handed to Marvel Studios.

Superhero movies by Marvel always failed to include the hero bitten by a radioactive spider because the rights were exclusively owned by Sony. However, now that Spiderman's fate rests on Marvel, fans are eager to see if the studio will officially announce plans to release the third movie. Christian Today reports that Sony had decided to release the third movie in 2016 and the fourth in 2018 but dismissed the plan after the release of the second movie.

However, Spiderman is most assuredly playing a key role in "Sinister Six" which is slated to release on Nov. 11, 2016. The plot follows a team of supervillains with Paul Giamatti and Dane DeHaan already playing roles in the movie. Felicity Jones and Jamie Foxx are other likely cast members.

"The Amazing Spiderman 3" may release in 2018, but if it does, Gwen Stacy, who was killed in the second franchise, will definitely make a comeback. Fans were disappointed when the damsel was killed, which led to the film's negative reviews. The International Business Times reports that Felicity Jones is eager to join the Spiderman series as Black Cat. She has expressed her desire to play the supervillain in the third installment of the Spidey flick.

Jones reportedly said, "Well, she's such a great character in the comics. I mean, if that happened, that would be lovely. There are no plans, but I'd love to play her. She's a fantastic, awesome female characters." Black Cat aka Felicia Hardy is the daughter of a cat burglar and trains herself in numerous fighting styles. Rumors circulating on the Internet talk of a possible stand-alone movie where Spiderman may face-off Black Cat. Other rumors doing the rounds indicate that Andrew Garfield may in fact still be in the running to play Spiderman in the third movie.
