'Bates Motel' season 5 spoilers: Two cast members set to direct episodes

(Facebook/BatesMotelAETV)"Bates Motel" season 5 will welcome two cast members in the director's chair.

Fans will witness two episodes directed by cast members this upcoming season of "Bates Motel." Max Thieriot, who plays Dylan, and Nestor Carbonell, who plays Alex Romero, will be respectively directing the fourth and fifth episodes of season 5.

The revelation was made at the panel at the recently concluded San Diego Comic-Con. It was also revealed that season 5 will be the last installment of the A&E series. The executive producers have always envisioned a clear end to "Bates Motel," opting to make quality television as opposed to dragging the show on for several seasons because of its popularity.

Thieriot shared his excitement about his directorial debut, saying that he had always wondered how it was done. Carbonell, on the other hand, has directed episodes before. Nevertheless, he was equally looking forward to another stint in the director's seat.

Season 5 will undoubtedly be the most thrilling given Norman's rapidly worsening mental health. His mother, Norma, played by the talented Vera Farmiga, died in the season 4 finale. However, she is still very much alive in her son's head, much like the Norman Bates that the world witnessed in Alfred Hitchcock's classic cult film, "Psycho."

It was previously reported that the upcoming season will see a relatively new Norma — the one who lives inside Norman's brain. Viewers have only seen snippets of Norman's version of his mother in the past, so this season will really open up the character more.

In an interview with TVLine at the same event, the cast revealed that the Norma defined in Norman's mind has already been fleshed out. In fact, they previously shot scenes of her, but they always got cut out. One particular scene involves Norman and Norma locking lips. It remains to be seen if the scene will make it to season 5.

As for Farmiga, she revealed at the panel discussion that the most frightening scene she filmed for "Bates Motel" had to do with her character's death. "They actually dug and put me six feet feet under in the coffin, closed it, and started shoveling dirt," the actress recalled.

"Bates Motel" season 5 will premiere in 2017.
