'Batman: Arkham Knight's' PC version launch is disaster; snail pace issues sees game pulled off shelves after 48 hours

(IGN)

48 hours. That was all the time it took for Warner Bros. Games to realize how disastrous the "Batman: Arkham Knight's" PC launch was.

In an unprecedented move, Warner Bros. has pulled "Batman: Arkham Knight" from store shelves a mere 48 hours after it was launched on the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles.  Gamers have waited a long time for "Arkham Knight" to be released. But while those who played the game on the PS4 and the Xbox One did not encounter any problems, PC gamers roundly complained about the snail paced frame rate, dodgy graphics and weird visuals.

Warner Bros. Games released a statement apologizing to gamers who have experienced performance issues with their copy of the game.

"We take these issues very seriously and have therefore decided to suspend future game sales of the PC version while we work to address these issues to satisfy our quality standards. We greatly value our customers and know that while there are a significant amount of players who are enjoying the game on PC, we want to do whatever we can to make the experience better for PC players overall," read the statement which was posted on its website.

Warner Bros. has also promised that it will "work to deliver an updated version" of the game. Aside from pulling it from retailers' shelves, the game has also been pulled out of Steam. Shops will be giving refunds to those who request for it.

"Batman: Arkham Knight" is the fourth and last installation of the Arkham series which started in 2009. The game has actually gotten very positive reviews on consoles so the complaints made by PC gamers were surprising and disheartening. The problem appears to have happened when the game was ported from the console version. Game developer Rocksteady was in charge of the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game while the PC version was done by an external studio.

In a way, this is what really riled up PC gamers--that this kind of problem happened to a company as big as Warner Bros.  One would assume that the company had strict quality assurance checks, so a mistake like this is unacceptable.
