According to reports, Monta Ellis may be on his way out of the Dallas Mavericks this summer.

The 10-year veteran has been with the Texas club for two seasons and has averaged 19 points per game in 162 appearances.

However, the lack of success of the team has resulted in them possibly trying to move in another direction and with new personnel.

Rajon Rondo is surely one name who will not be in the roster of Dallas anymore, and it seems that Ellis is another player being shopped around by the team.

With only one year left in the contract, Ellis has a player option to opt in or try his luck with other teams.

NBA analysts believe that if the shooting guard opts out of his contract, then the Mavs will try and see who they can get in exchange.

Meanwhile, another analyst believes that this move by the Mavericks will result in Ellis opting out of his current contract and hopes that someone will sign him for a similar or slightly better deal.

He is set to earn $8.7 million in the final year of the contract with the Mavs.

Ellis is known as a streaky shooter and has not changed much since arriving in 2005 when he was drafted in the second round by the Golden State Warriors.

He played six seasons with the Warriors, and in the middle of the seventh he was sent to the Milwaukee Bucks for Andrew Bogut and Stephen Jackson.

From there, he was signed by Dallas as a free agent in 2013, with a three-year contract worth around $25 million.

In his career, he has averaged around 19.3 points per game while shooting at around 45%. He is a regular starter for the club, but his erratic shooting display has often been criticized as a major negative in his game.

If he opts out of the contract and generates no interest, then the 29-year-old will be without a team.
