'Grimm' season 6: NBC may extend number of episodes

(Facebook/NBCGrimm)Season 6 of the "Grimm" only has 13 episodes.

NBC has announced that "Grimm" has been renewed for season 6, although it would be a lot shorter than the previous offerings. Instead of the usual 22 episodes, the upcoming installment is said to only have 13, which may be extended as per the network's instructions.

According to Deadline, the decision to have a shorter season was made to give NBC some breathing space, especially as it is set to debut nine drama series from September to late fall. In the past years, "Grimm" has been a frontrunner for the network, with a consistently good viewership. The supernatural procedural is said to be one of the Friday shows with the highest ratings. Having only 13 episodes will reportedly allow NBC to have flexibility in scheduling, in case changes are going to be needed.

Statistics show (as per Yahoo TV) that "Grimm" has been averaging 4 million in viewership on a weekly basis, with a 0.9 rating. Compared to season 4's numbers that reached 7. 4 million viewers and 2.1 rating, the current season is still a tad behind, with an average of 6.4 million and 1.7 rating. Still, no one can deny that the series has been doing well internationally, which explains why NBC is averse from letting it go.

Although the main cast of the series previously shared that they have yet to read the script for the upcoming season, lead star David Giuntoli, who plays Nick, has an interesting tidbit for fans. According to him, Nick and Captain Renard (Sasha Roiz) will have a showdown soon, as the Grimm becomes fed up with the other man's continued hounding of Adalind (Claire Coffee).

"Captain's doing some illicit things and calling my woman, and he knew about the assassination, he's on Nick's poop list now, so a smackdown is coming, a second smackdown, as we did that in Season 2. Maybe there is a little 'Grimm: Civil War' going down," the actor shared (as per Collider).
