'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' news: Nebula might join her sister Gamora; cast to be at this year's San Diego Comic-Con

(Facebook/jgunn)Nebula will reportedly join Gamora and the rest of the Guardians.

Good news for geeks and fans of superhero movies everywhere, filming for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2" has already wrapped up. Unfortunately, fans are still months away from knowing whether baby Groot has finally grown.

Luckily, Marvel Studios was cool enough to release the official synopsis for the film, probably as a way to keep fans sated and happy, while they wait 10 more months for the film to hit theaters. According to the studio, the sequel will be "set to the backdrop of 'Awesome Mixtape #2,'" and will find the Guardians try to solve "the mysteries of Peter Quill's true parentage." Interestingly, the second film also promises that "old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes' aid."

The synopsis immediately had fans wondering who these new allies are as Quill (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), Groot (Vin Diesel), and Drax (Dave Bautista) undoubtedly still have numerous enemies, despite having saved the galaxy last time. However, the smart bet is on Gamora's sister, Nebula (Karen Gillan), turning up and being on the side of the good guys this time around.

Nebula had a contentious relationship with her green-skinned sister, Gamora, in the first "Guardians of the Galaxy," probably because Thanos preferred the latter over the former. But things appear to be different in the sequel as Gillan teased to Comic Book Resources that she's excited to be "delving into the sisterly relationship between Gamora and Nebula."

"I think that we're going to see a little bit more of that, and it's going to be a bit more fleshed out," Gillan added.

There's the possibility that the new ally might be Yondu (Michael Rooker). But the head of the Ravagers wasn't so much as an old foe as a disgruntled boss slash father figure of Quill's.

But what fans are really looking forward to uncovering is the identity of Quill's father. Some have theorized that Kurt Russell is playing Star Lord's mysterious father, while others have claimed that Sylvester Stallone will portray him. "The Expendables'" star was briefly spotted on the film's set this year.

Fans might get more information about the highly anticipated film at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. Director James Gunn announced on his Facebook page that "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2" will be making an appearance at the convention and that they will show "something pretty cool."

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2" is expected to hit theaters in April 2017.
