iPad Mini 5 release date, specs rumors: new tablet to launch alongside Apple iPhone 7, MacBook Pro 2016

(Apple)iPad Mini 5 is rumored to release alongside iPhone 7 on the week of Sept. 12.

The release of the new iPad Mini is set for September, and according to several reports, the next mini tablet will be showcased alongside the new iPhone 7 and MacBook Pro 2016 at Apple's event.

Apple hasn't confirmed the details or even the existence of a new iPad Mini, but if rumors prove to be true, it won't be a long wait for fans who have been looking forward to a new iteration in the mini tablet lineup. Rumors of the iPad Mini 5 have been around for a while and they suggest that the next tablet will be much thinner compared to its predecessor. It should be noted that the iPad Mini 4 is already 6.1 mm thin.

Given the rumors that the iPad Mini will have a thinner appearance, it is expected that its standard 3.5 mm jack will no longer be featured. Instead, users will rely on a wireless connection for headphones.

The device is also expected to feature the same display size of 7.9 inches, as well as an 8-megapixel rear or main camera and a 1.2-megapixel selfie shooter. As for the battery, the iPad Mini 5 will have a less powerful unit compared to its predecessor. However, this won't affect the overall performance of the device because the rumored A9 chipset will make up for it. The A9 processor is more efficient compared to the A8 chipset in iPad Mini 4. It tends to be powerful and supports superior graphics quality, and yet, it consumes less power.

As for the release date, September is likely the month that the device will be unveiled since the previous iPad Mini came out in the same month last year. Popular tipster Evan Blass tweeted last month that the iPhone 2016 will be out on the week of Sept. 12. Given that it is widely believed that the iPad Mini 5 will share the spotlight with iPhone 7, it can be concluded that iPad Mini 5 will also release on that week.

Apple hasn't confirmed this speculated release date so all reports should still be taken with a pinch of salt.
