'Iron Man' rumors: Tony Stark to be killed off in 'Spider-Man,' replaced by Riri Williams' Ironheart

(Marvel Official)Riri Williams will now be known as Ironheart.

Now that Riri Williams finally has a moniker, rumors claiming that Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark character will be killed off in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) have even become louder.

Although it was reported by Time some months back that Riri Williams is the next iron-clad superhero in the Marvel comic books, many thought that carrying the moniker Iron Man was inappropriate for her as, to begin with, she is a teenage Afro-American girl. However, with Marvel finally coming up with the right moniker for her, everything seems to be falling into place for the character.

In an exclusive report of Wired, it has been learned that Marvel finally came up with the right moniker for Riri Williams after a series of discussions among the editors. While some thought that the best moniker for Riri Williams would be Iron Woman, the group thought it was a bit old-fashion sounding.

"Iron Maiden looked like a legal nightmare. And Ironheart, coined by Joe Quesada, after I told him my planned story for Riri, speaks not only to the soul of the character but to the 'Iron Man' franchise as a whole. Tony first put on the armor to save his heart. Riri puts it on for different reasons altogether but still heart-related," explained "Iron Man" writer Brian Michael Bendis in an interview with Wired.

Now that Riri Williams will be known as Ironheart, rumors claiming that Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark character will be killed off in the MCU have become even more persistent. In fact, it is said that fans of Downey should no longer expect an "Iron Man 4" to be top-billed by the actor as the character may be killed off in next year's "Spider-Man: Homecoming," where Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark character is said to mentor Tom Holland's Spider-Man. It is said that once Tony Stark is killed off in the movies, there will be no more stopping Riri Williams from making it to the MCU and will not just be confined in the pages of Marvel comic books.

Will Ironheart be introduced in the MCU soon? Will Tony Stark really die in "Spider-Man: Homecoming?"

Only time will tell.
