The mind behind the Dwight Darnell murders may finally be revealed in the upcoming finale episode, titled "White Lies Part 3," of the fifth season of the crime drama "Major Crimes."

The Major Crimes team nears to the discovery of the mysterious man behind the Dwight Darnell murders. Buzz (Phillip Keene) and Rusty (Graham Patrick Martin), on the other hand, arrive to a shocking end of their investigation on the murder of Buzz's father.

The promo trailer for "White Lies Part 3" shows Sharon and the Major Crimes team learning that there could actually be more to what they have initially gathered about the Dwight Darnell murders. There is a possibility that a conspiracy is involved in the crime. The clip also teases that the upcoming episode may have more action and more bloodshed.

Before the finale airs next week, executive producer James Duff revealed why they have to do a three-part finale. "This season has been about the balance of power," he told TV Guide. "We always try to center our season on a word, and 'balance' has been the word this season. We wanted to end our season meditation on this word by exploring the balance of power, and the best way to do that was to create a vacuum at the top, and watch as people struggle to regain their balance."

Duff also explained why they had to kill off Robert Gossett's character Taylor. He said that by shooting the character dead, they are "authenticating" about what's happening in the current law enforcement, which is that police officers are also less safe today.

Meanwhile, the previous episode, titled "White Lies Part 2," saw the team continuing the Dwight Darnell murders. Sharon, on the other hand, asked for atonement after her unexpected reaction to the current case.

"Major Crimes" season 5 finale airs on Monday, Sept. 19, at 10 p.m. on TNT.
