'Marco Polo' season 3 air date, news, updates: Benedict Wong's Kublai Khan will be replaced by Tom Wu's Hundred Eyes?

(Facebook/Marco Polo)"Marco Polo" returns for season 3 without Kublai Khan?

Fans of Netflix's historical epic series "Marco Polo" has not been renewed yet for a third season. However, there are already numerous speculations on the possible arcs that the next chapter will be focusing on.

According to reports, "Marco Polo" season 3 may see the death of Kublai Khan (Benedict Wong) and Hundred Eyes' (Tom Wu) ascend to power. Apparently, writing off Kublai Khan from the story is possible after speculations came out that Wong will no longer continue working for the series. Wong, who just recently starred in the box office sci-fi film "Doctor Strange," is rumored to focus on doing bigger roles.

However, there are other sources speculating that Wong is not yet out of "Marco Polo." It is possible that the actor is still negotiating his contract for the upcoming season, if it gets picked up by Netflix. However, if the actor decides to leave the series, then it is possible that Wu's Hundred Eyes will take the center stage of the story for "Marco Polo" season 3.

Hundred Eyes was already given a good foundation in the previous season of the historical drama. It has detailed his origin and history so it is possible that he will be the series' next main leader.

Although Netflix remains tight-lipped on the renewal of "Marco Polo," series creator John Fusco had previously hinted on his Twitter last month that new material is coming up soon. On his tweet, he uploaded a photo of his Labrador-Retriever looking through the window and experiencing its first snow.

Although the photo did not have any signs of "Marco Polo," one of the hashtags of his caption is #amwriting. He did not reveal what he is writing about, but it is possible that a third season is in the works. However, the possibility of a new series or project unrelated to the historical series shouldn't also be dismissed.

Netflix may announce the renewal of "Marco Polo" soon.
