Coulson will do whatever it takes to protect the future of S.H.I.E.L.D, including gathering his team and protecting them. However, it may be harder than it seems due to Skye's powers and her running away with Gordon when Bobbi attempted to shoot her.

Everyone is operating with good intentions." He also explained that Mack uses violence only when necessary and although he does respect Coulson significantly, he doesn't feel he is the right man for the job.
