Nokia users can now get their hand on Windows Phone 8.1 via the Lumia Cyan update.

Nokia rolls out the new smartphone operating system along with other updates through a Lumia Cyan update, exclusively for Nokia handset owners.

According to the official announcement posted on the website:

"The Lumia Cyan update gives you great new Windows Phone 8.1 features like a more personal Start screen, Action Center and the Word Flow keyboard. We've also improved your favourite Nokia imaging apps. Nokia Camera, Nokia Storyteller and Creative Studio have all been updated. It's the best Lumia experience yet."

There are also significant enhancements employed on UI, filters, image editing tools and how photos are converted to video slideshows and then eventually shared via social networks.

The Home Screen features more tiles now and the third column of Live Tiles on the Start menu provides access to Lumia updates.

The customizable Action Center now becomes the command center of notifications, messages and alerts.

The Word Flow Keyboard supports a new idea of typing – connecting letters without tapping.

The Lumia Cyan update occupies 1.5MB of space, so an owner is asked to free up phone memory to ensure software update goes smoothly.

The phone sends an owner a notification when an update is already available.

To check for this, go to Settings and click on Phone Update.

To proceed with the update, tap the notification message and follow instructions that will appear thereafter.

The update will take 15 to 30 minutes, but can go to as lengthy as 2 hours depending on the model of the phone.

The update is compatible with Windows Phone 8 models that include Nokia Lumia 520, 520T, 521, 525, 526, 620, 625, 630, 630 Dual SIM, 635, 720, 720T, 810, 820, 822, 920, 920T, 925, 925T, 928, 930, Icon, 1020, 1320 and 1520.
