'Once Upon a Time' season 6 premiere spoilers: Emma's best friend Lily returns

(Facebook/OnceABC)Lily and Maleficent will return in "Once Upon a Time" season 6.

Emma's (Jennifer Morrison) childhood friend Lily (Agnes Bruckner) will be returning in the upcoming season of "Once Upon a Time."

Co-creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis confirmed the news with Entertainment Weekly, stating that they have plans to continue Lily and her mother Maleficent's (Kristin Bauer van Straten) storyline in season 6. During the fifth installment, the mystery of Lily's father was not revealed. According to the EPs, they would get to address those in an episode they are preparing. They also hinted that Maleficent might be getting a new love interest.

Viewers met Lily as Emma's best friend from foster care. Later on, it was revealed that she was the long-lost daughter of Maleficent. Their story was one of the primary focuses in season 4, but it was interestingly not discussed in the next season. According to Horowitz and Kitsis, they are aware of what the fans have been requesting to see and promised that things would work out in the new episodes.

Meanwhile, they told The Hollywood Reporter that they also hope to bring back Ruby (Meghan Ory) and Dorothy (Teri Reeves), as well as other "realms" that the show has not visited for some time. This does not necessarily mean taking another journey, just like what the Storybrooke heroes did in the Underworld. Horowitz said it would be done via flashbacks as more backstories about the core characters would be revealed.

"The paradigm for what season six will be is a little bit different than what we've done the last few years, and we're very excited by it. It involves our core group of characters, Storybrooke and flashing back to other realms. It doesn't necessarily mean a journey to someplace else. I think at the end of the finale you'll get a little bit of a taste of how we're going to approach it — it's both a little something old and something new," he shared.

"Once Upon a Time" returns this fall on ABC.
