Bone-chilling horror drama "Penny Dreadful" recently concluded its second season that saw its lead character burn the cross and abandon her catholic faith. It was one of the most shocking scenes of the hair-raising drama because Vanessa always clung to her faith during the darkest parts of her life. All the other characters went their separate ways. What can audiences expect in the upcoming season three?

For one, seasoned viewers of "Penny Dreadful" should be happy to know that a new literary character will be added to the mix. Executive producer and writer of the show, John Logan, teased as much in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

He said, "I can tell you this—and this is such a tease, and I am sorry for it — but after two years I am finally adding another famous literary character. It's been fun going into another writer's brain and bringing one of those great characters back into our world." Speculations are doing the rounds on who this possible character may be with many pegging it to be the infamous Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

Apart from a new literary character entering the series, Logan also confirmed that Evelyn's daughter Hecate would be seen again in season three. Hecate varies from her mother in many ways in the fact that she is more modern and flamboyant. Moreover, she is not bound by the old tropes of Satanism. The character is certainly an entertaining watch.

In another interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Logan pointed out that Lucifer may have been defeated in the battle between him and Vanessa, but he has not gone altogether. She, however, no longer has religion by her side and must walk alone and fight her battles without her faith.

The showrunner concluded that, "season three is a real change of pace for us, which is good. We can get out of the alleys and cobblestone bars of Victorian London and see a bit more of the world. Essentially there's a pull bringing these characters together and it's supernatural, partly romantic, partly shared destiny."
