'Rick and Morty' season 3 plot rumors, air date: Series to premiere in 2017?

(Facebook/RickandMorty)"Rick and Morty" season 3 is rumored to have been delayed to 2017.

"Rick and Morty" fans just can't catch a break. Despite speculations that season 3 will premiere in December, a new rumor claims that production may have been delayed and that the third season could instead arrive in 2017.

It was previously reported that "Rick and Morty" season 3 was looking at a December release date, specifically Dec. 2. This made sense at the time because the first season of the animated series also premiered on the same date. Moreover, writers Erica Rosbe and Sabrina Carbiener revealed that a script had already been finished and sent to Bardel Entertainment in Vancouver.

However, new information has recently come to light, according to reports. Apparently, a Reddit user named PopDavid is claiming to be a design assistant on the Adult Swim series. And according to the user, scripts for all episodes have not yet been completed. He revealed that only nine out of 14 episodes have been written.

It is important to note that the validity of these claims can't be determined for sure, so it would be best for fans to take this news with a grain of salt.

There is no doubt, though, that fans of the show are hoping for the best. But it looks like there are other hurdles that "Rick and Morty" need to overcome in order to reach the December target. The show has always dealt with controversial and often risqué topics, which has apparently caught the eye of Broadcast Standards and Practices. It should be noted that Adult Swim airs nightly on Cartoon Network — a channel that kids usually frequent. Apart from that, animation also needs to be completed in time for the intended release date.

"Rick and Morty" season 3 will still draw inspiration from pop culture. It has been said that the 1976 film "Logan's Run" will be of heavy influence.
