Samsung Galaxy Note 5 release date, specs rumors: Edge variant to come without S-Pen; codename changed from Project Zen to Project Zero 2

(Reuters)

There have been reports of Samsung planning to launch Galaxy Note 5 (internally codenamed Project Noble), along with the second-generation Galaxy Note 5 Edge (internally codenamed Zen). However, fresh reports now claim that the upcoming Galaxy Note 5 Edge might get a new name and surprisingly, will not be featuring an S-Pen stylus, which was featured in the Galaxy Note Edge released last year.

The Galaxy Note 5 Edge will reportedly be a dual-edge curved device with either a 5.4-inch or a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display, as Samsung is reportedly working on two displays: a 5.78in display for a potential Edge variety, and a 5.89in version for the regular flat-screen version, offering incredible pixel densities of 762ppi and 748ppi, respectively. The device will be powered by a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor and offer 16 GB of internal storage.

But the latest reports now claim that Galaxy Note 5 Edge is unlikely to feature an S-Pen, which is one of the most distinguishing and defining features of Samsung's Note series. The reports further claim that since Samsung has dropped the special stylus for the Galaxy Note 5 Edge, its internal codename has also been changed from Project Zen to Project Zero 2. The Galaxy S6 was reported to have been internally known as Project Zero and with the internal codename of the Galaxy Note 5 Edge changed from Project Zen to Project Zero 2, the Edge variant of the Galaxy Note 5 could more like the recently launched Galaxy S6 Edge.

According to the report, the Korean electronics giant will launch both the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy Note 5 Edge during the IFA 2015, which is scheduled to be held on September 4 to 9. This contradicts recent rumors of the devices being launched ahead of schedule in July to take on the larger Apple iPhone S Plus that is expected to be released soon.
