TAG Heuer Connected vs Apple Watch: Device from TAG Heuer lacks heart rate sensor

As TAG Heuer launched its first Android Wear smartwatch in the form of the Carrera Connected, it became clear that Swiss watch manufactures want to replicate the success of the Apple Watch, and this is how these two devices compare.

Design

The Connected smartwatch is modeled on the Carrera analog watch and so it has a similar round body measuring 46 mm with a crown at its side. However, it is clear that the device is a premium offering as it has titanium body and only comes in one color black. As for its strap it is made from rubber and comes in seven colors ranging from bright blue, orange, red, yellow and green to finally black and white. In terms of dust and waterproofing, the device has an IP67 rating and it can only resist splashes of water.

Coming to the Apple Watch it has more options and has two models a smaller 38mm version targeted at women, while the 42mm model is targeted at men. It has a rectangular body and the material used in its construction varies, with the Sport lineup featuring aluminum, while the Apple Watch is made from steel and the costliest Edition lineup is made from solid yellow or rose gold. As for colors there are several on offer including silver, gray, black, gold and steel. Straps for the device are made from leather, Fluoroelastomer or steel and each comes in a number of colors. Finally it has IPX7 water and dust proof rating and so it cannot be immersed in water and like it competitor can only be splashed.

In terms of operating systems, the Connected runs Android Wear and so can be paired with Android or iOS devices while the Apple Watch can only be paired with iOS devices.

Display

Comparing displays, the Apple Watch has an AMOLED version. On the larger model the display measures 1.5 inches and has a resolution of 312 x 390 pixels and density of 302 pixels per inch, while the smaller model has a display measuring 1.32 inches with resolution of 340x272 pixels and density of 290 pixels per inch. As for the Connected it has a 1.5 inch LCD display with a resolution of 360x360 pixels and a density of 240 pixels per inch.

Specs

There is an Intel processor on the Connected and it is clocked at 1.6GHz. When it comes to RAM, there is 1 GB onboard along with 4 GB storage. Coming to the Apple Watch it has an S1system on chip along with 8 GB onboard storage, but only a portion of the storage is available for storing data or songs.

Sensors

When it comes to sensors, the Apple Watch has an edge has it a heart rate sensor, along with an accelerometer, ambient light sensor and gyroscope. As for the Connected it does not have a heart rate sensor but has a haptic engine, gyroscope and tilt detection sensor.

Price

Finally coming to price, the Apple Watch starts at $350 and its models in solid gold can cost up to $17,000 each, as for the TAG Heuer Connected it costs $1,500.
