The fate of "The Amazing Spiderman 3" hangs in the balance as Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Entertainment Pictures, stepped down from her position. According to Variety, this could lead to alterations in future movie plans including "The Amazing Spiderman 3", "Cleopatra" and sequels of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo".

The Spiderman films have always been a cash-cow for Sony, but after "The Amazing Spiderman 2" movie's lukewarm reception at the box office, fan and industry insiders are wondering what decision will be made about the franchise. Pascal was instrumental in pushing "The Amazing Spiderman 3" and "Sinister Six", but now that she has resigned, negotiations with Marvel will commence regarding the rights and future of the webslinging superhero. The only thing that is known for sure is that "Sinister Six" will hit the theatres on Nov. 11, 2016 as Sony had announced in July 2014 at Comic-con.

Cinema Blend reports that while the radioactively bitten superhero was rumored to star in a film in 2016, current reports suggest that "The Amazing Spiderman 3" will actually air sometime in 2018. The superhero will definitely not make an appearance in Marvel's "Captain America: Civil War" but he may make an appearance in "Avengers: Infinity War".

Spoilers for the upcoming movie are doing the rounds. Although there are no confirmed reports regarding the plot of the movie, The Christian Post speculates that Emma Stone will be a part of the movie. However, instead of playing Gwen Stacy, Stone will actually play the role of Mary Jane Watson, Peter Parker's wife. This drastic change will be the first time an actress plays two roles in a franchise. Will Emma Stone be able to effectively play another character? How will the plot fit her in? Moreover, it is confirmed, through Sony email hacks that were revealed in 2014, that Andrew Garfield will not play the superhero in the upcoming movie instalment. Movie Pilot speculates that Tobey Maguire may reprise his role as the friendly neighborhood superhero.
