News on "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 has still been scarce. However, recent reports in the rumor mill reveal that FUNimation will most likely release it by winter this year.

According to reports, "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 is slated for a winter release along with a Tokyo Ghoul mobile game app. Apparently, game developer GameSamba and the anime's American licensing company FUNimation are working together on a mobile game based on the hit anime series. However, some fans think that the launching of the game in winter doesn't mean the premiere of the anime as well, but an announcement about the anime.

The anime has been delayed for a couple of times already. The main reason for the delay, according to reports, is the lack of original source material. If the anime is determined to air earlier than it should, then the creative team behind it might resort to adding a lot of filler story arcs. However, fans may be disappointed with that option since some of season 2's deviation from the manga's storyline has already caused an uproar from the fans.

While waiting for more official updates and announcement, there are already a lot of plot theories regarding season 3. One of which is the possibility that Ken Kaneki will return as his old self rather than his new identity as Haise Sasaki Kaneki who had a memory loss and ended up surrendering himself to the CCG. Then, Arima named Kaneki as Haise Sasaki.

Even though they are just the same individual, because of his transformation and different aura as Haise, many fans still prefer the old Kaneki. The creators could consider this and actually bring back the old Kaneki.

The upcoming "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 will reportedly be based on the sequel manga "Tokyo Ghoul:re." Based on the manga, it will focus on Sasaki and his future battles. One of those battles could include a rematch between him and his mentor Arima.

More on "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 will be revealed soon.
