Many anime fans, especially the ones who have been following "Tokyo Ghoul," have been waiting eagerly for an announcement for the show's third season premiere. Unfortunately, though, FUNimation hasn't announced any details yet regarding the launch date. However, rumor has it that the show might come back on the small screen sometime this summer 2016.

Sadly, the manga counterpart of the series—its original material source—is running with only 43 chapters, as reported by When-Will late last year. With that in mind, it would seem like the chapters of the manga will not be enough for a full "Tokyo Ghoul" season.

However, there are two possible ways to deal with this, and they are: a reboot (slight or complete) or filler episodes to fill in the remaining gaps in "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3.

Luckily, though, the rumor mill is quite up to date with fan theories. One such theory says that the narrative of "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 will reportedly revolve around the former waitress Touka Kirishima, instead of the main protagonist of the series, Ken Kaneki, due to the reason that Kaneki will suffer from amnesia and Kirishima will act as his partner.

Because of this sudden change in the plot, the third season of "Tokyo Ghoul" might receive a slight reboot, if the rumor turns out to be accurate that is. However, according to reports, despite this change, this slight reboot will continue to stick with the story of the first two seasons of the show.

Since there is no official word yet coming from the production of "Tokyo Ghoul" anime, it is very ideal for the fans to take this news with a tiny pinch of salt. Needless to say, it would be best to consider this as a mere rumor until proven otherwise.
