Apple Watch 2 release date: Analyst projects 2 new watches to arrive this year; Wearables to boast faster processor

(Apple website)The new Apple Watch may come in two variants this year according to speculations.

Not only one Apple Watch is being polished around in the corner but two according to a reliable tech informant.

Ming-Chi Kuo, a KGI Securities analyst who accurately predicted the launching of iPhone SE, has now revealed that Apple Inc. will be shipping two new Apple Watches during the second half of this year. Kuo detailed that one of these variants will be a significant upgrade from its predecessor, sporting a faster 16-nm processor from TSMC and an improved waterproofing feature. Meanwhile, the other variant, the Apple Watch 2, will be equipped with the same functionalities, only with more precise tracking specification. The variant will have Global Positioning System (GPS) and barometer support, and a more powerful battery.

The Apple Watch 2 is also expected to feature the "same general design" of the previous Watch with new inclusions such as GPS radio, thinner display, and added sensors such as altimeter and speedometer.

Further, Kuo also projects that the Cupertino-based company will be introducing a Long-Term Evolution (LTE) connectivity to the line-up in 2017. With this functionality, the users can utilize their smartwatches without the need to connect to a phone or Wi-Fi. On the other hand, Kuo did not specify nor confirm that the new variants will be equipped with a FaceTime camera or even expanded Wi-Fi capabilities.

The variants of the hotly anticipated Apple Watch 2 is not the only device Kuo has predicted. He has also hinted that the company will be introducing a massively overhauled MacBook Pro in the latter part of 2016. According to Kuo, the new iteration will boast an Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) touchscreen in replacement of the function keys, a Touch ID and a USB-C support.
