The arrival of OnePlus and Xiaomi has certainly thrown a wrench in the Android scene as the added competition cut into the baseline of companies like Samsung and Sony. Of course, Apple stands apart from the rest because of its distinct hardware and software.

But Sony appears to be ready to take on the challenge posed by upstarts, Xiaomi and OnePlus and Apple's iPhone 6 with its up and coming flagship device, the Xperia M5.

The Xperia M5 is slated to be released anytime in the next few weeks and consumers are already wondering if it can hold its own against Apple's vaunted iPhone 6.

Camera and Display

The Cupertino-based company easily saw the trend for large smart phones and immediately conformed to it with the iPhone 6 and the 6 Plus' 4.7-inch retina display and 750 x 1334 resolution. On the other hand, Sony has always gone for big smart phones and the Xperia M5's 5-inch IPS LCD display is no exception.  The M5's 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution and Sony's Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 certainly offer more vibrant colors and a much better experience than its Apple counterpart.

When it comes to cameras, Apple can boast of its impressive iSight technology, which has been integrated in the iPhone 6's 8 MP rear camera, making it possible to shoot and record high quality pictures and videos. The Xperia M5's camera is not too shabby either as the handset packs a 21.5 MP sensor in its rear camera and a 13 MP front shooter. It can also record 4K videos and comes with a 5x digital zoom.

Specs and other sundry information

An A8 chipset and 1 GB of RAM powers the iPhone 6. While Apple might have done more in this area so that the device can hold its own against the other handsets, nothing can match Tim Cook's company in terms of hardware-software integration. The iPhone 6 is currently running on the iOS 8 but will be upgrade to the iOS 9 soon. As opposed to the iPhone 6, the Xperia M5 can go head to head with LG's G4 and Samsung's Galaxy S6 with its 64-bit, 2.0 GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 processor. While the Xperia 5 will roll out carrying the Android Lollipop OS, it will be upgraded to the Android M platform as soon as that system is given the green light.

Battery

Apple is notorious for the battery size that comes with its iPhones. But the company has obviously made an effort to finally address that issue with the iPhone 6's 810 mAh. The company is also betting that the iPhone 6's battery life will get a significant boost when the iOS 9, with its power saving mode, finally arrives. Sony's octa-core processor has made some of customers wondering if the Xperia M5's 2600 mAh battery is enough to support the device. But Sony has hastened to lessen fears by revealing that the M5's battery can actually last for two days and longer if the device activates its STAMINA or Ultra STAMINA Mode.

Price

In all likelihood, the iPhone 6 (16 GB) will be priced at $650. Sony has not made any announcements yet regarding the price of the Xperia M5, but it will probably cost around $450 to $550.
