"Astroneer" is an up-and-coming outer space-themed game, which makes it inevitably comparable to the "No Man's Sky." PC and Xbox One players will get a glimpse of the game via Steam Early Access this week.

Developed by System Era Softworks, "Astroneer" will be exclusively released on Xbox One and Windows PC. "Astroneer" practically has similar gameplay with "No Man's Sky" because it lets players freely explore the open-world feature of the game. Though no rigid objectives are set, the basic needs of the player's characters must be met because the food, water, and oxygen levels drop in the game.

"Engaging with the Astroneer community early on is important to us as that we may work with them to make Astroneer the best aerospace and planetary exploration experience ever," developers explained on why they are placing "Astroneer" on Steam's Early Access program. System Era Softworks added they're aiming for the game to remain in Early Access "for a year or two."

The developers added: "System Era aims to be as transparent with the games development as possible so that its community can be as equally transparent with us with how they're feeling about the game and what improvements they'd like to see."

The Early Access video teaser of the game also provides a good preview on what to expect from "Astroneer." As can be seen from the trailer, the game mainly features a sandbox gaming element. The trailer also shows ton of activities, equipment to be built and planets to be explored in the game.

In "Astroneer," players will be spared from enemies and other sorts of adversary creatures. However, players will face natural disasters that can cause danger to their characters or destruction of their equipment and weapons. Players will need to cope with dust storms, falling debris, shaky terrains, terrain deformation, and more.

"Astroneer" goes live on Steam Early Access starting on Friday, Dec. 16.
