Blackphone 2: the most secure smartphone now available in the U.S. for $799

The Blackphone 2, touted as the most secure smartphone in the market, is now available for North American consumers. The second-generation Blackphone is suited for those looking for "privacy without compromise" and are willing to pay a premium price for their security.
The ultra-secure Blackphone 2 will set consumers back by $799, more than the cost of the newest Apple iPhone 6S or Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
For that price, users will get a 5.5-inch smartphone with a Full HD display. The handset has a 1080 x 1920 screen resolution and is protected by a Gorilla Glass panel. The device is powered by an octa-core 1.7 GHz Snapdragon 615 processor, Adreno 405 GPU and 3 GB of RAM. There is 32 GB of internal memory on board, but it can be expanded up to 128 GB via a microSD card slot.
The Blackphone 2 has a 13 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front-facing camera. It is backed up by a 3,060 mAh battery with Quick Charge 2.0. There is also 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and NFC connectivity.
What makes the Blackphone 2 secure is the Android-based SilentOS developed by Silent Circle, an encrypted communications firm from Geneva. The SilentOS features a Security Center where users can control which apps are able to access their data. Every data that enters the smartphone is automatically encrypted, including voice and video calls, text messages, and file transfers.
The SilentOS also allows users to set up four different "spaces." Each space has its own apps, settings, data and password. Thus, users can set a separate space for work, their everyday personal life or one for when they are traveling to unsecure locations. SilentOS also has its own private cloud-based network.
When the device falls into the wrong hands, data can be wiped remotely. The Blackphone 2 also has a "Brace for Impact" app that can remove all data in a specific space. Aside from the secure OS, Silent Circle is also aggressive in delivering patches. The Blackphone was one of the first devices to protect itself from the Stagefright bug.
The Blackphone also now has support for Google Play and Google Mobile Services. It is also part of Google's Android for Work program, which allows companies to securely manage a fleet of Android devices so employees have a secure way of communicating.
