The trailer shows stunning graphics of a thrilling car race, with the lead character, Lightning McQueen, who is voiced by actor Owen Wilson, participating in it. The clip teases that McQueen might be getting himself into a life and death situation.

An announcer's voice can be heard in the trailer, stating, "McQueen is fading. He's fading fast!" The clip then pans to a shot of the race car's crimson bumper. He appears to be out of control, before he is suspended in mid-air amid a series of sparks and fire.

The clip then transitions to a black and blank frame, before teasing, "From this moment, everything will change."

The studios recently shared a poster for the upcoming film, showing the same intensity depicted in the trailer. The poster is an image of McQueen who is upside down and suspended in mid-air just before he is about to crash and hit the concrete track.

In a previous interview with Entertainment Weekly, Pixar executive producer and director John Lasseter teased the upcoming film. He stated, "We've got some great new characters, some great racing in it. It's a very emotional story. It's a little bit more akin to 'Cars 1,' where you get into a deep emotion with him." Lasseter revealed that "Cars 3" will be a special emotional story highlighting McQueen's relationship with Doc Hudson, who was voiced by the late Oscar winner Paul Newman, and his memory of Doc Hudson.

"Cars 3" will hit the big screen on June 16, 2017.
