Dallas Mavericks trade rumors 2016: David Lee is officially a Mav

David Lee wasn't moved by the Boston Celtics by the National Basketball Association (NBA) trade deadline but was eventually bought out not long after.

Such paved the way for Lee to try his luck with other teams with an open roster spot and it didn't take long for the Dallas Mavericks to hook him up.

The Mavericks and Lee came to terms immediately, with the veteran forward agreeing to a prorated value of the $2.1 million room exception they still had.

Head coach Rick Carlisle confirmed that Lee was officially on board with the team, calling him a quality veteran player who should help improve on their frontline needs.

Lee has been in the NBA for about 11 seasons but saw his playing time drop starting with the Golden State Warriors.

Even though he was part of last year's champion team, Lee saw limited minutes, with the Warriors applying their "small ball" philosophy.

Lee would be dealt in the offseason to the Boston Celtics, with the understanding that he would add experience to the young frontcourt while also mentoring the likes of Jared Sullinger and Kelly Olynyk. It never worked out that way, with Lee ending up spending more time on the bench than on the playing floor.

The Mavericks, known for being a stop for veteran players, could give him an opportunity to see action once more as he tries to get his career back on track.

Right now, it will be interesting to see how Lee will be given just that, considering the Mavs do have a crowded frontline which includes Charlie Villanueva, Dwight Powell, and Salah Mejri.

Lee is hoping to recall that figure which made him a two-time NBA All-Star, not to mention someone who could score and rebound efficiently back in 2009–10.

Seeing their lacking presence in the middle, Lee could be used at the center position as well. He will be with the Mavs when the team faces the Oklahoma City Thunder today, Wednesday.
