'Destiny: The Taken King' news: rewards for returning players; Iron Banner back on PlayStation

(Bungie)

Even with the holidays winding down, Bungie is still in the giving spirit. To welcome back players from their holiday vacations, the game developer will be awarding the New Year's Loot, which is set to arrive on Jan. 7.

"As a new year dawns, stop by to collect a token of our thanks for sharing the adventure as it continues," Bungie said in a blog post.

The New Year's Loot will give "Destiny: The Taken King" players 15 Strange Coins and 15 Motes of Light.

Bungie will also be giving a reward for returning players. Those who play "Destiny" any time from Jan. 7 to 10 will be given an exclusive Emblem. Players will simply have to log onto the game and play any way they please. To get the reward, players should try to complete any playable activity so that game developers will have proof of their attendance.

The yet-to-be-revealed Emblem will be released on to qualified players on Jan. 12.

Bungie also announced the return of the Iron Banner for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 players. The time-limited event will take place from Dec. 29 to Jan. 5. In this special Crucible event, those with higher attack ratings will be able to do more damage and those with higher defense ratings will be able to resist more damage. Players will be able to win exclusive gear including six pieces of armor and weapons for Titans, Warlocks and Hunters.

Exclusive items can be purchased from Lord Saladin in the Tower depending on the players' rank. The items include boots (rank 3), helmets and auto rifles (rank 4) and a shotgun (rank 5).

Rewards will also be awarded to players post-game. Players in rank 2 will receive helmets, those in rank 3 receive class items and auto rifles, and those in rank 4 will receive a shotgun.

"Destiny: The Taken King" is now available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360.
