'Elder Scrolls 6' release date: Bethesda confirms sequel is not in development as of yet

As "Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" was an undeniable success, having sold more than 20 million copies when it was released in 2011, it is not above anybody's head why many assume that Bethesda would come out with a follow-up, and that it would be released anytime soon. However, there's a sad piece of news to those who expect that "Elder Scrolls VI" is at hand as it has been confirmed that Bethesda is not working on it yet.
This piece of unwelcome news to "Elder Scrolls" fans was confirmed by no less than Bethesda's vice president for PR, Pete Hines, who said on Twitter that the studio is not working on "Elder Scrolls VI" at the time being.
While the tweet has definitely doused the flames of excitement of the fans, hope may not be lost at all, and there is still a chance for "Elder Scrolls" fans to lay their hands on the game sequel. Gamespot opines that the statement was actually vague and can be interpreted in two ways.
For one thing, it can mean that "Elder Scrolls VI" may already be in its pre-production stage but hasn't gone full swing. However, it can also mean that the game hasn't reached any level of production at this point in time.
However, can it also be possible that Bethesda is not really working on an "Elder Scrolls VI" game as it will be renamed to "Skyrim 2" instead? After all, it was earlier rumored that it would be the case.
"It's rare to have franchises like the ones we have and to have people joking about 'when is Skyrim 2 coming out?' The reason they say that is, because, generally speaking, that's what you'd be getting with another publisher in charge," said Hines at the launch of "Elder Scrolls Online" in 2014.
Without a detailed explanation from Bethesda, though, everything is a speculation at this point in time, and fans can only wait and see if an "Elder Scrolls VI" or a "Skyrim 2" will be released, who knows when.
