'Elementary' season 5 release date: Will Natalie Dormer and John Noble return to the series? CBS yet to set a return date for the show

Fans of Sherlock and all its various incarnations are undoubtedly sad that "Elementary" has just wrapped up its fourth season.
The show, which has one of the better, modernized twists to the famous detective, recently ended season 4 with a bang. Fans of the series will recall that the season ended with Morland Holmes (John Noble) taking over Jamie Moriarty's organization and promising Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) and Joan Watson (Lucy Liu) that it will be operating in London.
It was a surprising and satisfying end, as Morland showed, in his own way, that he loves his son and wants to protect him. And what better way to protect Sherlock than by taking over the organization that has set out to kill his son and ensuring it won't be operating anywhere near him.
The final interactions and confessions of the Holmes' men also underlined the fact that while the two will never have a normal father-son relationship, Sherlock has developed very solid partnerships of his own — with Watson and Captain Gregson (Aidan Quinn).
Of course, the fact that Morland left America and returned to London means that fans will be seeing less (if at all) of Noble. The actor is reportedly no longer a series regular when season 5 rolls along, something that was apparently showrunner Rob Doherty's plan all along.
Doherty recently admitted to TV Line that the plan was always for Noble to be on board for season 4 and then exiting.
"We wanted Morland — and, by extension, John — to help us define Season 4, and he absolutely did that," Doherty explained.
The EP also added that Noble's time in the series allowed them to tell the story they wanted, along with "smaller stories about Sherlock and his father, and then Morland trying to develop a relationship with Joan."
However, it doesn't mean that fans won't be seeing the renowned scene stealer anymore as Doherty is open to using the actor to move the show forward.
Another character that was much talked about but wasn't seen was Jamie Moriarty herself — Natalie Dormer. The last time that fans saw the "Game of Thrones" actress was two years ago. Despite not being able to secure her actual presence, the show still did a good job of having fans invested in the character through her extension, Professor Vikner (Tony Curran).
"Elementary" season 4 might have drawn to a close, but fans still have a fifth season to look forward to. Unfortunately, CBS has yet to set a date for the show's return.
