Lucious (Terrence Howard) wants his son to snap out of his trauma and start performing once again in the upcoming episode of "Empire."

In the episode titled "One Before Another," the promo reveals Jamal (Jussie Smollett) getting a word of advice from his father. Just like the rest of the family, Lucious is getting tired of waiting for his son to come back to the world of the living and start singing again. Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) has already done her best to try and convince him to take the microphone and face his fears. Her friend Kitty (Mariah Carey), a famous pop star, visited Jamal and encouraged him to record a duet with her.

Jamal's trauma after getting shot, however, appears to be very deep. He has made progress though since he was finally able to face Freda (Bre-Z) last episode. His friend accidentally shot him last installment. The bullet was meant to be for Lucious, but Jamal saw everything and tried to stop her.

Showrunner Ilene Chaiken previously revealed that it would take a while for Jamal to get over his post-traumatic stress disorder. He needs to find a way to get himself over it. 

"Jamal understand she's a victim, but he still has to deal with the fact that she shot him. It was a hugely traumatizing event that she perpetrated on him. But he believes in her and in the mission of ending the cycle. So he's going to have to do something about it," the EP said, according to TVLine.

Meanwhile, the synopsis (as per CarterMatt) reveals that Jamal is thinking of collaborating with Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray). This will require him to perform in front of many people. Will the most awaited moment of the Lyon family finally happen?

In the meantime, Lucious should be very wary of Shyne (Xzibit). The other man is expected to come after him and Andre (Trai Byers) after what happened last episode. The promo shows Shyne pointing a gun at a man's back. Is his target Andre?
