Kaitlin Doubleday's Rhonda has been killed off in "Empire" season three's premiere episode. The scene was gruesome and many fans were unable to swallow the hard pill about the character's final end. However, she could return.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Jussie Smollett, who plays Jamal Lyon on the show, revealed his feelings about Rhonda's death but also dropped a few hints about what fans should expect of the future.

"I was sad because I love Kaitlin personally, outside of the show. It's always tough when you lose a character," he first said. But then he immediately added: "Empire is known for our flashbacks and good stuff like that. You never know."

Will Rhonda return to claim the blood of the person who first pushed her on the stairs, causing her to lose her unborn child? This same person is the one who pushed her off the building's veranda. If Rhonda ever returns, how will she affect Anika (Grace Gealey), who may or may not be affected by murdering the former at all?

Meanwhile, showrunner Ilene Chaiken seemed to agree that Rhonda cannot be sent off just like that. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, she said: "Rhonda dies but she's not out of the show... it's an important part of Andre's story and his psyche and it really tells the story of his state of mind."

Before anyone forgets Andre (Trai Byers), he saw everything happen. He witnessed how his wife was pushed off the balcony and he saw her fall. Based on Chaiken's statements, it can be safe to conclude that fans will see a rather devastated and depressed Andre in "Empire" season three.

Chaiken further teased that viewers should prepare for a very heartfelt and emotional season for Andre as he tries to deal with the loss of his wife. "He has a very, very dramatic journey this season," she said, according to THR.

Will Anika ever realize the depth of what she has done? How will this situation affect everyone else in the Lyons' den?
