There's a lot to be excited about as it is currently pilot season for the five big networks of television. A lot of TV series pilots are on the roster for each network, just vying to be picked up for a full season or even more.

A number of these take inspiration from their movie counterparts—either being prequels/sequels or a re-telling of the story. These include "Time After Time," "Training Day," "Frequency," "Cruel Intentions," "Taken" and "Powerless."

"Taken" is the prequel to the film of the same name, which centers on Bryan Mills' life and how he cultivated his special set of skills.

"Powerless," a comedy, focuses on the lives of regular humans in a superhero and villain-filled world. The series is set in the DC Universe and stars Vanessa Hudgens and Alan Tudyk, among others.

"Riverdale" brings the classic comic series "Archie" to life. The series also stars Cole Sprouse of Disney fame playing the always-hungry Jughead.

Some are spin-offs or a reimagining of other television shows currently airing. "Marvel's Most Wanted" is a spinoff of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." "MacGyver" offers up a fresh new take on the popular series of the same name. A spinoff of "The Blacklist" is also included.

Courteney Cox and Matt LeBlanc of "Friends" fame also return to television in "Charity Case" and "I'm Not Your Friend," respectively.
